upgraded to 2.1. can't see repository

Hi there,
I had a server crash and have moved to a new installation running 2.1 it is working great. I migrated the database fine and moved the files across.
the git repos are in the same spot on the new server but when I goto the repository tab I get 404
The entry or revision was not found in the repository.
I don't think the old installation had any plugins.
am I missing something? I have tried adding the repository to redmine again and changed the permissions of the repositories to 777
I have got nowhere with this. does anyone have any proposed solutions?
pushing to the origin repo updates the tickets using refs #xxx or fixes #xxx
