How to present a milestone (or certain time point) in gantt?

Sometimes, some sub tasks / projects of the main project have deadlines, while the others are flexible.
How to make these certain points really noticeable in gantt?
And how to make them "fix", so if I changed one's sub task but ending over the deadline, I could get an alert?
