How to register an existing group of people properly into Redmine?

Added by Jamshed Poonawalla about 11 years ago

Hello!

We are a very large and diverse group of colleagues.

I consider building a new communication infrastructure for us with Redmine, but I am no Redmine-pro so far^^

So far, we have several servers with other content, where the different users with different roles are stored.

Now I found, that Redmine can deal with LDAP and I would like to find out some more about this feature.

Is it possible to build an LDAP server or directory with the existing users of the existing servers, even if there are different roles of users?

And would it be possible for the old existing users to log on to the new redmine-system using their old username and password?

What other options do we have to register an existing large group of people properly into Redmine ?

Thanks in advance for your reply…

So you want to consolidate your diverse infrastructure and use LDAP instead.
This might be possible or not, depending on your special usecase.

And would it be possible for the old existing users to log on to the new redmine-system using their old username and password?

How would you know their passwords in the first place? And god beware you don't store them as plaintext...

=> Ask someone with very good experience in setting up directories, this needs some serious thought...

Thank you for your suggestions.
I am not the admin of the servers, and we definately can assume that the passwords are safe and the admins know what they do^^

I am just wondering if there are any further possibilites for the old existing users to log on to the new redmine-system using their old username and password?
