What would you suggest for a max-performance setup (OS, web-server, rails implementation, DB, ...) for a 50-100 userbase Redmine instance on a 512MB RAM VPS?

Hi Anto,

After a few searches on Google and my own tries with VPS and cloud solutions, I would definitely recommend Linode over many other providers. They have a Linode 1GB offer at $20/month. They even provide a 4 hours free play, which should be enough using a Ruby on Rails stack (they have some).

Best regards,
Cyril

Hi Cyril, I had recently joined DigitalOcean, and they seem quite an exciting service.
I tried installing the latest Redmine on a 512MB 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 server from them.

Running on nginx, it seemed quite happy handling loads for upto 20 users accessing the instance in parallel.

Hi Anto,

I decided to choose Linode mainly because "Digital ocean is about half the speed of Linode, in spite of their fast SSD disks." as a conclusion of this comparative: http://www.cosninix.com/wp/2013/06/amazon-aws-ec2-linode-digitalocean-cloudserver-showdown/. If a lot of simultaneous users using Redmine are expected, 1 CPU and 512 MB are a bit short. Linode gives 8 CPUs and 1 GB, which is more comfortable.

I will switch soon from Amazon EC2 to Linode and the speed gain will be huge.

Best regards,
Cyril
