How to solve the performance issue when integrating the svn respository in redmine product?

We use Redmine as project management center and SVN as SCM tool. They are deployed in different servers. When we config the svn repository for a product, it will impact the performance when using the redmine to open the page.
What's the cause of the performance issue and is there any solution for it?
