Modifying RM Labels?
Added by Johnny Stork almost 16 years ago
I am evaluating a few GW/Collaboration tools and now that I have spent some time with RM, I can see it is an exceptionally well thought out application. Although we do some development work in R (a statistical language), SQL and possibly other languages, we are NOT primarily a development shop and are looking at RM mostly for its GREAT integration with SVN and for Project Management. However, is there a simple way to change the way some things are labeled, such as "Issues" which might make more sense as "Tasks" in our environment? I know I have the source, and could manually do this but I am not sure how much work that would entail, especially of this labels are hard-coded through the code and not with pointers.

All the text content is looked up in the language files. Depending on your version they will be in lang/en.yml
(any of the released 0.8.x versions) or in config/locales/en.yml
(svn trunk version). Once changed in there, you just need to restart your Redmine app server and Redmine will pick up the new labels.
It's worth mentioning, you will need to do this for each language file that you want to change. If you only need English, you can leave it as is. You will also have to check this file when upgrading because the strings can change.

Excellent!! and thanks. One follow-up though. After changing "Issues" to "Tasks" all seems fine and so went to add a new "Tracker" (Optimization). This shows up in the list of Trackers, but when I go to "New Task" the new tracker (Optimization) does not show up in the list of categories? Although any name changes to the existing categories does show in the drop down list?
