Is there an easy way to add the /projects/activity to the homepage

Has anyone tried to add to the home page data from the /projects/activity page? I am going to try to add it myself but wondering if anyone else has already tried. I would like to show the latest N entires with a link to all of them to the /projects/activity page. Would a plugin be able to modify the homepage?

I don't think anyone has created anything yet but it's possible. There are plugin hooks on that page that plugins can use to add HTML.
