0.9 feature creep?

Added by chris redmine about 15 years ago

Watching the 0.9 roadmap, there is a cycle where issues are getting resolved apparently moving us closer to a release, then several "new feature" issues are added, and we're back to a lot further away from release... Is there a planned feature freeze date? There is a lot of great functionality in 0.9 that would be great to have rolled out, but it seems to be getting pushed back indefinitely.

I must admit I've felt the same - there are a lot of things about .9 that we want, but since I don't/can't contribute code (or anything for that matter) I can't complain. The latest round of roadmap cleanups (down to 4 open) look like perhaps we're on the cusp of .9 hopefully soon.

One thing I can say - I've been upgrading each release for about the last 1.5 years, and I've never had a problem with the upgrades. I think that's rather amazing.

We are only assigning issues to the 0.9 version when they are completed. So if you looked back 6 months, you might only see 20 issues in 0.9 compared to the 200 there are now.

Post 0.9, we are going to discontinue this practice. We thought it would make it easier to release because we wouldn't have to cut Feature X that someone was waiting on, but it didn't work out that way.

Timeline-wise: we are planning a code freeze for 0.9 soon with a stable release around the end of December or start of January.
