Reminder in Redmine

Hello guys!
As I understand, Redmine will send reminder only about issues that assigned to Redmine user. In case issue did not assign to Redmine user, reminder email will not be sent. I would like to change it i.e. Redmine should send reminders about all issues that have due date within x days. Is it possible? Can this be done in source code of Redmine?
