Identifying the REST API fields

Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting started with the Issues REST API. To be specific, I'm not certain which fields are available when adding Issues.
Ideally I'd like to be able to dynamically list the available fields that users are able to enter rather than hard-code them and have to update them whenever new customer-fields are entered.
Is it possible to extract a schema from Redmine, or should I open an enhancement request for this?

Hi all,
I haven't had any responses, so maybe my question wasn't clear enough:
Is there any way to query a Redmine instance for a list of available Issue fields and any options or limits that are applied to them.
I'd prefer to access this information either via XML or JSON, as I'm intending to use the information to integrate Redmine other tools that I regularly use.
