gantt displaying empty lines

Environment:
Redmine version 2.0.0.stable
Ruby version 1.8.7 (x86_64-linux)
Rails version 3.2.3
Environment production
Database adapter MySQL
Redmine plugins:
no plugin installed
running on bitnami's virtual machine for redmine 2.0
Ubuntu 12.04 using Linux 3.2.0-23-virtual
mysql server 5.5.21
just updated from redmine 1.0.x to 2.0.x
and the gantt page has now started showing empty lines(see attached picture)
it was my understanding gantt only showed issues that had both a start and due date, or has that changed?
i read elsewhere that there was some issues with this around 1.1 or so, but that it was fixed in 1.2 or am I mistaken ?
