Can redmine 1.4.1 be installed without mysql gem

Tried to install mysql gem so many times, but no luck. However, I have this ruby-mysql driver installed in my system. Is there anyway to get around the mysql gem?
ruby-mysql.x86_64 2.7.3-1.el5 installed
