Our Redmine is VERY slow

Hello,

I am setting up Redmine 1.4.4 stable (MySQL) to run in a Linux Mint 14 (x64) Guest OS through a VirtualBox VM.

Overall, so far so good, in the VM, Redmine responds very fast.

However, outside the VM, on either the Host OS, or elsewhere in the network, Redmine is performing VERY, VERY slow.

Has anyone else encountered this, and what can we do to resolve that issue?

I doubt it matters, but we're also using Hamachi for Linux (via Haguichi) to help with virtual networking. Don't think that matters as much, like I said, since performance is equally poor on the Host OS itself.

After some Google detective work, I followed some instructions to configure Passenger and Apache to run through the /redmine (or whatever it is for you) link instead of through a port 3000 (default I think). Not sure if also adding Mongrel as opposed to Webrick also helped; I'm reading places that might not be a factor. Anyway, it runs much faster now; it's even usable :).
