LDAP/Active Directory: what should I use for account/password?
Added by Michael Haren almost 16 years ago
I currently have active directory integration with on the fly user creation working just fine.
I have entered MY account credentials in for account and password, though, which seems wrong. This means that I have to update this config each time I change my password.
Other tools that integrate with AD don't normally have to use attach with an account--am I missing something? What typically goes in these fields? Leaving them blank doesn't work.

Active Directory doesn't provide anonymous access by default (you can configure it so, there is article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320528 how to configure that), so you it's easier to have account to use for binding. Basically it's just some dummy user that can't do anything else than read AD.
