transferring from Redmine 1.2 to 2.3 on new bitnami server

Hi,
I am in the midst of moving from Redmine 1.2 on bitnami server A to Redmine 2.3 on server B.
I used mysqldump to create a backup.sql of Server A v 1.2. Then I used phpmyadmin to import the backup.sql into the working (but empty) 2.3 redmine db on Server B. This didn't work quite right -- the projects are visible, but most pages such as issue list no longer work.
What should have I done, and what should I do now to fix things? Easier to tweak, or start over?
