eMail reply to News rejected but reply to forum post works?

I've looked though the issue list and previous posts but cannot find anything relating to this problem (if it is a problem).

I have just finished configuring redmine with a postfix alias, mailproc and rdm-mailhandler.rb. Replies to forum posts work fine. They are forwarded to the correct forum. A reply to a news item however, is failing. Redmine returns:

Remote Server returned '< #5.7.0 x-unix; Request was denied by your Redmine server. Possible reasons: email is sent from an invalid email address or is missing some information.>'

I have checked the permissions report and the user does have permission to comment on news

I have also tried manually adding a comment directly using the user that the mail came from (same as forum user) and it works.

The same user CAN respond to forum posts.

I am using Redmine 2.6.0 stable, ruby 2.1.5-p273, Rails 3.2.19. Perhaps rdm-mailhandler.rb is somehow broken and will not allow e-mail comments to new items?

I never did resolve but do need to try again sometime soon.
