Best choice for upgrading old v1.2.1 to v3.0.0 ?

Added by Grégory Janiszewski about 9 years ago

Hi all,

We are using a bitnami virtual machine running Redmine v1.2.1.
We think it's time to upgrade ;-)

But as this is a quite old version, I'm asking myself about the best procedure.

1- Upgrade the current redmine to the latest one by hands...
2- Use a brand new Bitnami Virtual machine including the latest v3.0.0 and import all MySQL database and files.

I was thinking the solution 2 is better, because it will also update all dependency (Ruby) and Ubuntu server to latest stable version.
  • But what about importing old data into brand new v3.0.0 ?
  • Is it easy and automatic ?
  • Are the database compatible (I'm sure not)? How to perform database upgrade ?

If someone can give some advices and procedure I will appreciate.
Thank you.

Remove all plugins and follow upgrade guide (backup existing database and import it to the latest 3.0 installation, then run database migration).

Thank you.
I'm trying porting database on new virtual machine and it seems to work !
The database migration sounds good.

You said "remove all plugins".
Why ?
I just dumped my database, then import it to my new VM, and run migration.
And it seems ok.

I will now add my needed plugins and migrate databse plugin.
Is it ok ?

Thank you.

Because your database maybe holds tables from old plugins.
