Incremental search for a custom field (same like in Parent task)

Hello,
Is it possible to somehow activate incremental search possibility on a custom field. I would like to get results in a dropdown as I type in some string. Field 'Parent tasks' has this ability. Could some please give me some pointers on how to achieve this?
