Single project read only for non members

hey,
I have the Non member role set to allow creating new issues but now I have a project where I would like to deny that so they can still read the issues but can't create new ones.
So far the only way I found to archive this is to install a plugin which auto assigns groups to new registered users and set that group to a role which doesn't allow issue creation.
Is there a better way to solve this?
