New user is not receiving invite email. Can redmine installed on my local server actually send out invite emails?

I installed RedMine to my computer using Bitnami. I am setting up a project (as an admin) and want to add my teammate to it. I created a user and checked the "Send account information to the user" checkbox, but the email was not sent. How do I solve this issue?
