I searched for an explanation on how default assignee is working but not able to find a definitive answer. It is possible to set a default assignee for a project like it is possible to set a version. When you create a new issue, we do see the default version at creation but the assignee is blank. I would expect to have the same default assignee shown in that page. I understand if we leave it blank it will replace with the right assignee, but that does not give the information to the user that the system does know about a default user. You can have projects with or without a default assignee. Why not do the same as the version?

If somebody could shed light on the logic behind it. I not using the categories, just plain default assignee.
