Redmine

I would like to have the option to not just follow the history of what is happening in my connected repos in redmine. Is it possible also to do the file editing in redmine based on its rights and permissions inside redmine and not through the repo software? Or is that not the goal of the VCS integration in redmine?

If editing is not possible, does any of the offered VCS offer an option to at least read the files in redmine? If yes, which one? I want to have an option for some (not too technical) users to get around the VCS and stay in redmine only with at least having the possibility to read files if editing is not possible.
