Removing Module Tab, but keeping functionality.

Hi all,

Is there an appropriate way for being able to remove a module's tab inside the header, though while still allowing the module's functionality to be enabled?

For instance, we want to keep the "News" functionality open, but want to disable the tab since this information gets emailed and stored inside the "Activity" feed.
