Redmine

Does anyone have any wisdom on how to best organised projects in redmine?

We are working on a large system with several interdependent components including a web applications, supporting processes and client applications. For new installations these would be compiled into a release although once live we may release the admin tool without updates to the client software.

Any clues on how best to organise this? We need to be able to version the product as a whole even if our version 2.0 product supports version 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 clients.

Are sub-projects a good idea for this? I'm not really sure when to use them and how to handle components.
