Search action (on atom feed) is killing my server due to high memory consumption

I use Netvibes to monitor project activity on my Redmine server, pulling 5 atom feed that looks like this:
http://server/projects/activity/kdi-server?format=atom&key=JmSXddPJrDqnzo5joKDyy4qV2R1nUz3IcTIO13Ss&show_documents=1&show_files=1&show_issues=1&show_messages=1&show_news=1

Sometimes, when Netvibes tries to refresh all feeds, Redmine memory consumption goes insane. The last memory usage, that I was able to get from the server before it completely stalled, was that "search" was using >220MB of RAM.

This memory consumption peak completely kills my server. Please help!

Any idea is appreciated.

P.S. In case that matters, I'm on Redmine 0.8.5.
