I just want to do a 301 redirect

Hello All,

Website is hosted on a server with Lighttpd and all I want to do is setup a 301 redirect on a Wordpress website.

So instead of a user going to www.website.com/oldname I want them to go to www.website.com/newname. How do I do this via Lighttpd or is it better to do the 301 redirect within like a Wordpress plugin?
