Get and Set Value of Issue Custom Field in Plugin

How would I access the value of an issue custom field and then set that value pragmatically on redmine 3.3.3? Field names have a space in them (ie. "Field 1", "Field 2"). I looked at the Redmine tutorials but could not find a good example.
