Description

These two were really difficult to config via cronjob and setup file. Especially the incoming part! I found a lot of questions in the forum for incoming mails in redmine, some non resolved.

Since SMTP and IMAP are pretty common, I suggest user who use them for the mail parts can just add parameters for it in the admin section of the redmine backend, without the need to edit config file, play with rake/ruby/gems and cronjobs.

+1 (I came here to submit much the same issue).

I've set up redmine via docker, using https://github.com/sameersbn/docker-redmine. It doesn't have support for the incoming mail setup. I'll probably add an issue to that project also.

It seems like making the mail settings something that can be handled entirely within redmine is a better approach, at least for the IMAP/POP account based approach. Forwarding mail into Redmine obviously involves configuration beyond what can be done from within Redmine.
