My understanding is that the pre tags should not parse any markup tags, but given a wiki page reference in a pre section it will display as a link instead of as the source text. Like so:
With spaces added to avoid link creation:
example link text: [ [gui|GUI Proposal] ]
Without spaces this is displayed:
example link text: [[gui|GUI Proposal]]
