Same problem with Redmine 3.2.3 on Ubuntu 16.10. For info, I'm also using Rhodecode on the same server which has no problem to connect to the LDAPS.

OpenSSL s_client also works after putting the LDAP certificate in /etc/ssl/certs/ca-bundle.crt.

This is really an issue for us since we want to use the same company accounts for Git and Redmine.
Redmine - Defect #27071: Error testing LDAPS Connection: "Unable to connect (hostname X.X.X.X does not match the server certificate)"https://www.redmine.org/issues/27071?journal_id=816632017-10-19T12:48:41ZMischa The Evil

Just my two cents on this matter: this is something that might be solved by the upgrade of the
net-ldap
gem to 0.16 in r16773 for #24970, which is going to be shipped with the upcoming Redmine 4.0.0 release.
Redmine - Defect #27071: Error testing LDAPS Connection: "Unable to connect (hostname X.X.X.X does not match the server certificate)"https://www.redmine.org/issues/27071?journal_id=816802017-10-20T07:59:31ZBoris B
