Redmine as an Intranet site? — Or would you recommend something else?

Added by Alec Taylor over 13 years ago

Good evening,

I've recently been using WordPress and (especially) Drupal for building sites. They seem to have great features, but seem really slow... :\

Redmine (Ruby?) seems to be really fast! However, is this a solution for my company Intranet?

Features needed for Intranet:
  • Calendar
  • Meeting support (people can RSVP for meetings, meetings appear on calendar)
  • Company news feed
  • IT FAQ: As a wiki or more specialised (form+search centric knowledge-base)
  • IT HelpDesk form
Features needed for backend:
  • Speed
  • Security: affective hashing of passwords, secure connection support [HTTPS, certificates]) &etc
  • Complete ticketing system for IT HelpDesk:
  • queues
  • tickets which clients can subscribe + view progress and comment on via email or in ticket (via website).

Would redmine be the best package for the job, or should I be looking at something else, perhaps which links to Redmine?

Thanks for all suggestions,

Alec Taylor

Look at this site: http://www.andriylesyuk.com/ -- Redmine is a base of a personal web site.
My opinion is that it makes sense to use Redmine as an intranet site. You have to select good and stable plugins.

Redmine has project news but does not have global news (for the whole site).

Thanks Ivan, I might just do that!

Only thing holding me back are the more complete packages which integrate software version-control and deployment; and hardware inventories.
