Is there a way to template Projects? Or create pre-defined sets of Issues which can be added?

Added by Deane Barker over 12 years ago

Is there any way to "template" a project type? So, when you create a project, it comes with a standard set of issues?

We have a number of standard tasks that exist for every project, and we'd like to be able to pick from a set of "standard" project types that are pre-stubbed out with a pre-defined set of issues. Either that, or we'd like to be able to "bundle" issues up, and mass-add them all to a project in one shot.

Does this exist, either as core functionality or a plugin? (For the record, I RTFM'd through every page of the plugin directory looking for this.)

Projects can be copied from the administration forms. There you decide what do you want to copy: members, versions, issues... so you could prepare some "template project" to be copied later.

Regarding to the issues, you could, once copied the project, perform some bulk edit for changing dates, assignees, etc...

Projects can be copied from the administration forms

What do you mean by that, exactly?

That's what you're looking for, or the closest to one you'll find to what you're looking for. Less skimming during your RTFM'ing next time maybe ;)

From Administration / Projects, you can copy an existing project (the template)

Nice that this can be done by admin, a similar functionality would be good for a standard user.
It is possible to copy task with podtasks, indeed. Unfortunately it sends emails to all involved usewrs which is not ideal...

Hi, at RedmineX, we just developed a Project Templates plugin that can copy projects, set project start date to re-calculate all issue dates, work with a template as if it was a project so you can define all members, custom fields, gantt relation.... anything. Check https://www.redmine-x.com/redmine-project-templates --> it will save you a ton of time.

Hi, we developed a plugin that does just this. Creates an entity that doesn't appear in the project list, or in any planning tool such as Gantt, Resources, etc. See https://www.redmine-x.com/redmine-project-templates
