Call for someone to adopt redminehacks.org
Added by John Goerzen almost 16 years ago
Hi folks,
I am finding that I do not have the time to maintain redminehacks.org any longer. Is there someone willing to take over this project for the community?
Please let me know.

It doesn't take all that much, at least not right now. There are only a couple of projects hosted there.

I would be interestet too.
You say you don't have the time any longer. Can you give me a little overview what has to be done?

Hi folks,
Strangely, I have not been getting emails of new posts on this thread even though I'm a watcher on it; somebody emailed me privately about it.
Anyhow...
The redminehacks.org domain expired about a month ago, and I had removed the site from my server a few weeks prior to that already.
I am not exactly sure what happens to the domain now; I just got an email today from Gandi indicating that it's out of its renewal grace period and in the process of being deleted. So someone else in the community could perhaps register it. Of course, if there's anything I need to do to help, I'd be willing.
I ran it under a Debian vserver instance. I did have backups, but I am not sure that I still have any by this point.
So I think the bottom line is that redminehacks.org is available for anybody that wants it to start from scratch.

That was me...
Since the 0.8 release more and more plugin pop up on different sites (this site, github, etc.). It would be really helpful to have a central place like for plugins, themes and other kinds of Redmine addons...

Backups would be good, although there wasn't much stuff on the site anyway...

I think Eric is the most compentent person for the job. I'm happy to help in whatever way I can...

Yeah, I've missed the last update or two also. Just got notified now.
I would be willing to help out in any extent possible.
As mentioned above, the domain is tied up through 2010, and the status is set to
Status:CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED Status:INACTIVE Status:AUTORENEWPERIOD Status:PENDING DELETE RESTORABLE
Registered to
Registrant ID:JG430-GANDI Registrant Name:John Goerzen
I've would be willing to help donate server space and domain hosting, I have a half dozen or so servers I already manage.
As of right now, it would seem John would need to allow the domain to be transfered and provide the transfer code to the person who is wanting to register it. Gandi should be able to help with this if necessary. Sadly, since it is out of the grace period, it might have to be renewed with them first before they will allow it to be transfered, just depends how difficult they want to be.

I've sent Eric a note and will work with him to get the domain transferred to his care.

Hello,
I could help out as well with regards to domain and website administration and hosting. I don't know much about redmine code yet, but I do run artistichosting.com which provides website design, domain administration, website hosting etc... So it wouldn't be too hard for me to take over the domain and provide hosting for it as well.
Also, I am using redmine to manage projects for my website clients.

I'm in contact with John about moving forward. I've also registered http://redminehacks.com (ad-filled holding page) a bit ago, just in case a domain squatter got the .org. I'll try to keep everyone in the loop about this, but it might take a bit before somethings ready. I've got another Redmine community project about to launch that's a higher priority ;)

Yes, I just got it registered last night. John and I had to let it fully expire and then register it before an automated bot got it. I'll be setting something up on it soon and will post a new thread about it once it's ready.
P.S. Thanks John.
