Our Latest Theme
Added by Shane Pearlman over 15 years ago
Hi Everyone,
Our crew has been working on a redmine redesign now that themes are coming into their own and I wanted to see if anyone had some insight or thoughts. I have a few things I would love to see added to the core and want to see if other people want the same thing:
- Make the project menu sortable & modular.
- Allow saved filters to be groupable (tag or categories)
I will probably add more when they come to mind.

Jean-Baptiste,
I will work with Eric to get a public place to report bugs as our redmine system is behind lock and key (intentionally). For the time being - please email them to shane /at the following domain / shaneandpeter \dot\ com.

Try using the private feature removal branch. That's the one where I removed all of the non-core features so it "should" work with the latest Redmine. There might be small bugs or incompatibilities with the very latest Redmine (Redmine development is a fast moving target).

This theme is amazing. Has anyone tried it with .9 RC?

Redmine 0.9.2. Bugs: click on Issues (http://localhost:3000/issues?project_id=testprojid) write error

Why undefined method `new_record?'? If use redmine without peter_and_shane_plugin, then no errors.
EXCUSE for grammatical errors. I speak english not good.

Not in the slightest. We continue to work and develop it. At the moment we are syncing it up with the latest dot release.
As you all know, its less a theme than a theme with a set of built in plugins. Eric Davis was hosting the open sourced version last I checked.

Hello again,
I've loaded up Redmine 0.9.4 as well as the private-feature-removal branch of eric's git repository for the theme/plugin. There's really no mention of what to do with it (is it a theme? is it a plugin?) so I installed it as a plugin, including rake db:migrate_plugins RAILS_ENV=production
. With an eye on the log, I fired it up and everything seemed happy. Connecting to the site showed the new theme. However, I don't get any of the standard menu bar at the top, the Administration, My Page links, etc. Using the dropdowns on the upper right-hand side, they are all empty (there is search and project, but I don't have any projects defined) and no way to add them. Not sure what's going on, no errors in the log. Any ideas?

Is this still at a point where it can't be dropped in as a theme or plugin ( or combo ) yet?
I was hoping we would see it in version 1 but that's not the case and the the git repo hasn't seen an update this year.

The Theme looks dead. The demo hasn´t worked for months.
http://shaneandpeter-design.heroku.com/
Since this is not only a theme, but also a series of plug-ins I sure would like to see this as part of the distribution in Ver.1
Anyone know a link to a working demo of this?

We have similar theme build and published demo at http://www.taskpoint.com/demo. We are working with UX team of the Redmine project to propagate better user experience back to the project.

The private feature removal branch should work with a stock Redmine.
I was hoping we would see it in version 1 but that's not the case
The plugin modified too much of Redmine to be included in 1.0.0.
and the the git repo hasn't seen an update this year.
I think you are looking at the wrong git repository, the plugin has been updated almost every month in 2010 already. http://github.com/edavis10/redmine_shane_and_peter_design

As you can see from my last post, you can't count on much help with this project. The original designers have moved on, it appears, and while the ambitious nature of the project made it exciting, it also means that without good support it is too easy to go off the rails (no pun intended) trying to use this. I never got it to work, and I was very optimistic about it.
Save yourself some time and go with the pixel cookers theme, it looks nice and has the sidebar menus.
Sorry Eric, I love your work, but this one isn't yours and I don't think anyone should be recommending this theme given the lack of support and the fact that the core changes never seemed to make it onto the Redmine roadmap.

I understand. This theme wasn't developed to be a general theme that anyone could install and just use. I created it specifically for Shane and Peter to use and they let me release it so other themes can use it as an example.
the fact that the core changes never seemed to make it onto the Redmine roadmap.
As far as the core changes: several of them have made it into the core but there is still some work needed. It just comes down to time: I'm running my business, supporting the Redmine core, supporting 70+ of my own plugins, and trying to have a life off the computer (keyword, trying). Now that Redmine 1.0 is out, some of the Redmine core team are going to take another look at advanced theming and see how the Redmine core can be improved to make theming easier.
I hope you understand and accept my apologies if the theme's development and support hasn't been as active as you expected.

Hey Ted,
That's the struggle with open source. Energy is put in as time is available. As you saw in Eric's note, we work on this theme every month. While much of it has made it into the core, this was a GIGANTIC mod, so it will simply take time.
As part of the UX core team we have discussed themeing quite a bit and concluded that the core dev team had their hands full and will wait until 1.0 is public and stable. That means over the next few month the core team will begin tackling the issue of a new theme for redmine. If that interests you, I highly recommend you join us for the UX core team meetings. http://www.redmine.org/wiki/redmine/UX_Team

Ted,
I would like to say few words in support of Eric and Shane here. It's huge effort to make theme like this. And remember both Eric and Shane are doing it for free at their own time. My low end estimate would be that they have put 4-5 person/month in the design and code Eric and Shane have published. That's a lot of work.
On the other hand I would like to assure you that Redmine UX team is working hard to make sure that changes necessary to create theme like one by Peter and Shane will find their way to the core. And as UX team lead I would reiterate invitation extended by Shane to take part in our future meetings.

Where did this theme disappeared to?
The demo site has stopped working as well.
RE: Our Latest Theme - Added by dj jones over 10 years ago
This theme is clearly now dead.
The links to everything don't work.
So I've deleted it from the Theme_List page here at redmine.org
