Privacy policy and spam from Redmine.com
Added by Cris Fuhrman almost 9 years ago
I received a spam today from redmine.com sent to the UNIQUE email I used to sign up for Redmine.org.
Most privacy policies state that email addresses are not given (sold?) to third parties, but I always use unique addresses (because I've suspected that such emails are shared, but also I use them for security reasons).
Anyway, I'm classifying/reporting such an email as spam because a) I didn't sign up for it with Redmine.com and 2) it's asking me to unsubscribe (opt-out == spam).
It may be legal to give my redmine.org email to redmine.com, because there is no privacy policy here (I couldn't find it in your search engine), but I consider such use unethical especially in 2015.

You can hide your email address at your user profile.

I don't know privacy policy is required for OpenSource Project.

Thanks for pointing that out. I now realize the default is that it email was visible! I admit that is a surprise and explains a lot.

I don't know either. But it's a pretty common practice and IMO it's easier to put one in place than to deal with the problems if you don't have one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_policy

Will do.
