VS Jira

Added by Frank Zebre over 8 years ago

Where I'm at we have a current redmine installation that we've had for 3-4 years now. It has worked great for us and I see no problems with it. Enter the new hire on another team. We work very closely with the other team and when we got Redmine we offered to let them use it as well but they declined. New hire comes from a company that does similar work to us and at his old job he used Jira. He loves Jira so much so that he's gone to higher ups and pitched Jira and how we need it and it's better than Redmine. I haven't really had access to his presentation but have been told (since I'm the Redmine guy) that I need to go to a meeting next week to talk the pro's and con's of both systems and refute any points new guy might have if they are wrong (oh boy this will be fun /s). A google search brings up lots and lots of results that seem to mostly favor Redmine as long as you are willing to work and install plugins, but most of these results I'm finding are from several years ago. 2012 is the latest one I can find and 2010 was the last discussion here I found. https://www.redmine.org/boards/1/topics/18986?r=22974. Are these points still applicable today? Things changed in both directions?

Also since I wasn't in on his pitch to the higher ups and I've never used Jira myself I'm wondering just in general what can Jira do that Redmine can't? If there even is anything?
