lighty configuration for a webserver residing on an embedded system

I have setup lighttpd as a web server on my embedded system. This server serves MPEG files as requested by clients. Whenever request comes in for a large file the CPU-load on the server goes to 50% as returned by top. Is there a configuration option tht I can set to lower the CPU load.
