Does project sorting work for custom fields?

Before adding a new bug report, I'd like to ask if project sorting/grouping works for you.
If I'm on the projects page and try to sort the list in the table header, standard columns work, but not the ones that are based on project custom fields (though the up/down arrow beside the column name gets shown). The columns get shown but they are not sortable.
And I cannot use them for grouping. The only field that I get offered for grouping is 'Public'. So even the standard columns (like 'Status') are not offered.
Can anyone confirm this misbehaviour?
This is with version 4.1.0.
Update: Found this bug: #32769. I'm wondering if grouping of custom fields is possible with this fix.
