Confusing date/priority behavior with subtasks
Added by Chris Wolf over 13 years ago
I recently upgraded from RM 0.8.2 to 1.1.2 to take advantage of subtasks. I immediately noticed a clunky behavior. When creating a new task, in the form, the fields, Priority, Start Date, Due Date and Estimated time are disabled.
Presumably this is because the system can't tell if the task will be either a parent task or standalone task (no parent, no children).
This is not discussed in the user guide at all:
I read about this behavior here:
[[http://www.redmine.org/boards/1/topics/22888?r=23090#message-23090]] and can appreciate that parent tasks need these values calculated (not set by the user).
If the Parent Task field is filled in, you already know immediately it will be a child task, so why not enable those disabled fields right away before the form is submitted? Also why not add a checkbox whose caption is "Standalone" such that checking it will enable those disabled fields?
Thanks,
Chris Wolf
