Can`t understand whether emails are being sent or not

Hello... I am having trouble trying to understand when emails are being sent. In which cases are emails triggered? Can I set that?

this info must be available in production log file.

Perhaps I was not so clear.
But I would like to be able to receive emails under certain circumstances, and even though I checked every combo-box in configuration... I don`t receive them.

production.log does not show any errors, so I don`t uderstand why are you pointing me to that direction.
