About to give up on Redmine + Gitosis (CentOS 5.6)

Added by Matt M about 13 years ago

Over the last week I have spent much time getting redmine to work, not an easy task either, but at either rate I have managed to get Redmine itself working just fine, and Gitosis separately working just fine, but I cannot get them to work together. When I go to create a GIT repository it seems like all is well, I go to click on the repo link, and it gives me a red box stating Repository does not exist. Create one using the instructions below., followed by instructions on how to setup to access the repo. In the instructions there is a link to upload your SSH key, however that results in a 500 error. I have looked over the error logs for apache, and can find nothing but a fatal: Not a git repository: '/home/git/repositories/emmy.git/', sometimes it doesn't have a trailing /, sometimes it does, at either rate I cannot find any other error logs to indicate the problem. The Redmine_Gitosis plugin is clearly not properly communicating with Gitosis to create the repos, but I am at a loss to know why.

Current setup:

Server version: Apache/2.2.3
ruby 1.8.7 (2008-05-31 patchlevel 0) [x86_64-linux]
Rails 2.3.11
Phusion Passenger version 3.0.9
OS: CentOS 5.6
Everything is running x86_64
user is 'redmine' for redmine install, and 'git' for Gitosis, Using ACL to properly give access to 'redmine' to read ssh key (this works fine, no access errors anywhere and redmine user can read it), using CGI (Not FCGI couldn't get nothing working with it).

Any ideas anyone? I really don't want to have to look for another platform, redmine would be perfect if I can just get these to work together

I've seen a lot of problems with the Gitosis plugin for Redmine discussed here, most users seems to eventually switch to Gitolite and seems to get happy with it, maybe should you consider switching too?

Thanks for the idea, it was actually fairly easy to get working too! I think I might actually be able to make this work now.
