Can I use Ruby 2 instead of 1

I installed the latest Ruby instead of 1.8... as the install listed.

When I tried to run Gems I get and undefined method error. If I have to install the old version, can I just do it over the version I already installed?

Please advise.

I tried recently Ruby 2.0 on Windows and was not able to run Redmine. So I returned to 1.9.3.
