RedMine Test-Driver Backup/Restore/Migration Concerns - how?
Added by Carl Edwards almost 16 years ago
Hi,
I've recently downloaded the bitnami stack version of RedMine to an Ubuntu minimal install VM, to test-drive RedMine with a few projects, and then hopefully rollout to rest of the team. However, a few (related) questions/concerns:
- Backup/Restore
The only advice I've seen consists of backing up some files and backing up the db (i.e. 'unmanaged' options outside of RedMine itself). Is there no better 'managed' way, one that abstracts from the physical implementation?
- Migration of data to another install
I expect after test-driving to need to migrate the data to a better spec'ed VM, or potentially to a different platform. There seems to be no mechanism for doing so other than the backup/restore process above. Does that then limit migration to an 'identical' install (same plugins, same OS, same backend DB etc...)? Does that also mean ALL data has to be transfered (e.g. also my Test Projects were have been playing with how features work)?
The product looks a good fit for my purposes; but the above issues are a concern. How do others deal with what must be the common issue above?
Many thanks in advance,
Carl
