You can freely edit the names of custom fields in Administration -> Custom Fields. Click on the desired custom field and edit the name.

Since internally, custom fields are references by their unique numeric ID (which you can see in the URL when editing the field), All existing data will be retained when renaming the field.

There are no requirements to have unique field names. It just makes things easier to identify if you use identifying names.

The name of the field (which you can freely edit) is shown everywhere, that is both in the Administration area as well as within the issues forms and views. There is no capability to have different names for different web views within Redmine.
