Status of LDAP authentication in Redmine stable vs. trunk

Added by Stefan Stefansson over 14 years ago

Hi.

I've just installed Redmine 0.8.5 and I'm in the process of connecting it to our LDAP user management server.

I've managed to get Redmine to authenticate users from LDAP but what I need to do is limit the allowed users to a group or groups. The best thing would of course be to have Redmine apply roles based on these groups but at the very least I need the ability to limit any type of potential Redmine user to a specific group.

After a bit of googling and poking around the redmine website I found some discussion about this feature and even some patches.

But as I hate maintaining a non standard installation of any software I wanted to ask about the current status of this. As I said earlier I installed the 0.8.5 version of Redmine because it's considered "stable" and this will be a production environment. However, I'm having second thoughts about whether it might be a better idea to install a more recent version in the hope that some of these patches I've found have already been integrated.

So I basically have two questions:

1) Have any significant changes been made to LDAP authentication in what will become 0.9 from 0.8.5 (especially regarding the ability to limit users based on their groups)?

2) How far along is 0.9 in development? Would you recommend installing that instead of 0.8.5 even in a production environment?

Best regards, and thanks for an excellent product!
Stefan Freyr.

I found the post with the patch that I will probably use if push comes to shove:

It looks fairly clean, so even if it applies to 0.8.1 I should be able to apply it manually to 0.8.5, but as I said, I just really hate the feeling of using a non default codebase, however small the changes are, and especially if they make changes to the database schema.

Hello Stefan,

I run 0.9 and find it quite stable, but I do not update it often.
I have not figured out how to get 0.9 LDAP connection to respect groups.
