Paste screenshots into body of Issue - as images (not atachments)

Added by dj jones about 11 years ago

See Plugin page:

Plugin released Jan 2014

We would welcome comments or those interested in trying it out.

This plugin was a show-stopper for us - without it we can not interest our users in a move to RedMine! They say 'a screenshot paints a 1000 words'! And they often have many screenshots, with text for each one explaining some detail - that use case means that the images must be mixed in with text: (images attached as file attachments at the bottom, is just no good)

Note: the paste works all all three possibilities: raising a new Issue, 'Update' of an issue, and in a 'Comment' to an issue.

It's also unclear why this command should be executed. I think restart redmine will be enough.

rake db:migrate_plugins RAILS_ENV=production

No, it doesn't work in 'Comments' - it works when (a) generating a new Issue: and (b) when making an 'Update' to an existing issue.

So it works just in issue's description, right?
I can't press Update and paste image here.
I only can create new issue and paste image in description or Update and edit description.
And main benefit that you can paste image between text, right?

Sorry Pavel - I was wrong. It works in Comments too - so it works in all 3 : new Issues, Updates and Comments.

I can't press Update and paste image here.

Yes, you can do this.

Exactly: it's a usability benefit: especially when you want more than one screenshot and need to explain somethine about each one.

Our team refused to move to RedMine without this feature - they argue that 'a picture paints a thousand words' and that 'hiding' images into file-attachments is not easy-to-use

Don't know if it's an browser or redmine issue but pasting from clipboard doesn't work with
  • redmine 2.5.1.stable.13182
  • Firefox 30
  • IE10

also reportet on GitHub: Not working on firefox and explorer #7

Hi, if you just need a website screenshot, you can try this http://www.redmine.org/plugins/website-screenshot-page2images

That is a lot less flexible, on top of the limitations you mentioned, it also:

a) screenshots the whole page - you cannot choose just a small part of the page (which is the most common situation:
b) prevents you using screenGrab tools that allow typing text over the image or drawing highlight circles on parts of the screenshot, to emphasise the specific things in the screenshot you want the reader to notice.

In contrast, redmine_image_clipboard_paste allows you to use any tool you like to get a screenshot into the clipboard : like the easy-to-use Browser plugins (such as ScreenGrab! on Firefox) and the plugin simply handles getting that image into REdmine as a visible image in the page, not as a file attachment.

Point (b) is a hige factor in our usage: a red circle or two over a screenshot, can save writing a load of words to explain!

I too see it not working in FF 30 (on Ubuntu).
The symptom - nothing is added to the field when pasting.

It still works OK for me in Chrome 35 (on Ubuntu).

For both New issues, and adding to existing issues.

Chrome 35 for me works also when pasting to Wiki: where FF 30 does not.

Hi will this plugin work for adding images to Wiki pages?
That is a big Use Case for us.
Currently when writing up a 'how-to' in a Wiki, the process of uploading image files then linking to them in the text is so onerous that we end up writing a Word document containing the images and attaching that to the Wiki. This then creates the inevitable problem of synching changes to the Word doc :(

I want the same functionality just like redmine_image_clipboard_paste.
In Description/comments I want to paste clipboard image in between the text. Is there any way to have this by your plugin ?

I don't understandwhy wiki module does not work If I install redmine_image_clipboard_paste :(

After installing the plugin redmine_image_clipboard_paste , If I click on "wiki", I get an internal error - please contact redmine administrator. If I uninstall the plugin everything becomes fine again.
