For most fields, you can define multiple values which should be selected, e.g. you can select multiple statuses or versions in your filter, any of which can match the issues. For that, you can click on the small + button beside e.g. the Status is filter and select multiple values.

It is true that you can't define complex filter rules right now to combine multiple columns in an AND/OR combination such as (Status is New AND Version is Backlog) OR (Status is In Progress AND Version is Current Sprint). Part of the discussion of #4939 is how it would be possible to define those complex filter rules.

As such, please add your requirements, insights and possible solutions to #4939 to make sure the discussion is not spread over many strongly related issues.
