Currently the calendar views show only events with tickets. For example, ticket start date and due date, etc.
It will be so nice if i am able to add an event of my own which is not ticked on my redmine. For example, release dates for the project

The calendar shows issues (with their start and due dates) as well as project versions with their due dates.
Thus, to add a release date, you can add a version to the project and set a due date on it. It will be shown in the project calendar. You can also add issues to the version so that they will also be shown in the Gantt chart accordingly.
