More a nifty nicety than a necessity :)
Currently it's possible to group issues by status, thus creating groups for each of the configured issue statuses. I suggest a new grouping; simply a split into two groups open & non-open.
Sure, you can create two queries, one for each of those, but it would be nice to keep them on the same page (open being shown first).
