Importing from Trac - stable & reliable? And other questions
Added by Mike Stoddart about 16 years ago
How stable and reliable is the process of importing from Trac? I haven't yet seen a Wiki page that describes the process. Has anyone successfully imported from Trac? Specifically multiple separate Trac environments into one Redmine environment?
Also, if I have a Redmine installation hosting many projects, is there any way to move some projects onto a new Redmine installation on a different server? I'm just curious what the options are for when the server is overloaded.
Thanks

FWIW since I don't have any experience either with Trac nor with migrations from it to Redmine:
I have seen several Trac-related commits on the Redmine-fork of Texuna Technologies. From what I can remember Artem Vasiliev refactored and extended the provided importing-script a bit more serious.
Dunno if it was because of the fact the default import-script isn't sufficient or if is was because of that the default script created errors.
HTH...

I successfully merged two Trac instances into Redmine. I had some teething issues that I logged patches and tickets for and JP merged (and improved my patches :) ).
After those fixes the process was quick, simple and easy. We're very happy post the transition.

Hi,
i have imported four different trac-environments into a single Redmine instance. I have found out there are some minor issues with the conversion process (Milestones are not closed in Redmine, Some formattings things currently don't work in Redmine) but the majority of information is transfered.
I tested that, cause i'm thinking of the process to migrate to Redmine...

installation on a different server?
Just simply duplicate the database and delete the projects on target server you don't like to have there...
Kind regards
